REAVER'S REST (published 11/19/2013)

The town of Reavers’ Rest was founded some 120 years ago after the legendary adventuring group, The Reavers, stayed at the Sanmark farmstead in the shadow of the Galena Mountains.  Eventually the Sanmark family opened a trading post and then an inn.  Eventually more farmers, trappers, adventurers, and hunters settled around the Sanmark’s farm and inn creating the town of Reavers’ Rest.  The Reavers protected the town from certain destruction several times, but were also blamed for bringing such threats to the town’s doorstep.

Today the 300 souls of Reavers’ Rest is ruled by an elected Jarl who acts as protector and enforcer of the law which is written by a council of elders.  The Sanmark estate, including the Reavers’ Rest Inn and Common Room is still owned and operated by a member of the Sanmark family.  Since most of the citizens of Reavers’ Rest are expatriots of Damara the preferred religion is the worship of Ilmater, the Broken God.  Below is a brief introduction to prominent citizens of Reavers’ Rest.

Jarl Crowdac is the current elected leader of Reavers’ Rest.  He was elected by the council of elders whose responsibility is to write the laws of the town.  Jarl Crowdac is a bear of a man and a former adventurer and bounty collector.  Crowdac is an ambitious man whose primary goal is to tame his small corner of Vaasa and claim a Barony from the Crown of Damara.

Deacon Sodoc is the half-orc spiritual leader of the Church of Ilmater in Reavers’ Rest.  His fearsome appearance belies his gentle soul.  Sodoc is well loved in the community and also serves on the council of elders.

Nadia Sanmark is the granddaughter of the original owner of Reavers’ Rest Inn.  She is approaching her sixtieth winter, and is widely loved and respected in the community.  She is tough but fair and always welcoming of strangers into her inn, treating them as guests in her home.  Nadia also serves on the council of elders.

Captain Toven is a former soldier in the army of Damara, serving on the Vaasan wall.  He is a strong and capable warrior and leads the town militia through respect and perhaps a bit of fear.  He trains his men hard understanding that they live in the wilds of Vaasa and any breach of defense could be catastrophic.  Toven serves on the council of elders, but is in the “pocket” of Jarl Crowdac.

Balden Stonebeard is the last son of the dwarven Stonebeard clan that once plumed the depths of the iron mine outside the walls of Reavers’ Rest.  The Clan was decimated about 80 years ago by a massive underground gas explosion and subsequent mine collapse.  Today Balden is a master smith who plies his craft for the citizens of Reavers’ Rest and passing traders alike.  Balden is surly and gruff but his wisdom is valued on the council of elders.
